Boundary
Boundary is the first start-up in the UK to produce the first BS EN50136 compliant smart home security system. This security system can be tailored to your own specific needs, making it easier to protect your home. Each system can be installed with configurable security measures, police monitoring/response and key holder can be activated.
Once installed you’ll be able to detect any movement and the opening of windows and doors within your home when you’re out, it is pet friendly, so your furry friends are free to roam around house, whilst having your home protected.

Siren
This is an outdoor siren is the ultimate deterrent. It comes with an LED light to maximise visibility and the threat of a 95 decibel siren, no one will set foot on your property.

Motion Sensor
Once installed you’ll be able to detect any movement within your home when you’re out. It is wireless and pet friendly so your furry friends are free to roam around the house, whilst having your home protected.

Door & Window Motion Sensor
Once installed you’ll be able to detect any movement from any of the doors or windows. Any unauthorised entry will immediately set off the alarm.

Key Fob
The key fob can easily arm and disarm the system when you’re coming and going. The Boundary app gives you total control over your key fobs, allowing you to activate and deactivate them. You can also check history logs to see when they were used.

Hub
Once the hub is installed it is responsible for monitoring and controlling your contact sensors and motion sensors. It processes events and communicates with the phone app to keep you up-to-date at all times. You can manage your Boundary devices from wherever you are with the Boundary app.
Challenges & Solutions
We have supported Boundary from the initial idea:

Many competitive consumer alarm products do not meet the necessary approvals for remote connection for police monitoring.

The primary challenges were:
Selecting a suitable system architecture that can meet the security, approvals and reliability requirements.
Creating a simple user interface, whilst meeting the requirements of the EN50131 approvals.
Ensuring the system was secure from would be hackers.
Our approach was a combination of stage-gate product development and agile embedded software development. Requirements - Concept - Prototype - Pilot and Launch phases were planned and executed. Knowledge gained was transferred to Boundary via simple A3 reports.
Our results:
EN50131 alarm approvals being finalised through the external approvals laboratory, Intertek.
We implemented a trusted execution environment, secured at first boot-up and became the first consumer product in the UK to be given the IASME Gold award for Cybersecurity.
A simple interactive touchscreen menu provide easy setting / unsetting of the alarm. The Boundary App. provides additional levels of customisation and remote control for the more experienced user. For the technology phobes, a simple keypad and PIN is retained.
